Counselling Approach

My practice is client-centred meaning I will assess your specific requirements and tailor my approach to your needs.  I predominantly work within an Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework.  ACT is a behavioural therapy, focused on taking action in line with your core values.  This framework is so effective because it draws on what truly matters to you in order to make lasting change. I also supplement my practice with other therapeutic modalities and relevant psycho-education where beneficial.

As a recent Masters student, I understand a range of effective modalities and engage with relevant professional development to enrich my practice.  I also partake in regular professional supervision, ensuring thorough and safe practice.

I offer support for individuals struggling with a range of challenges including intrusive thoughts and feelings, and detrimental behaviours. Through carefully formulated care plans, you will be empowered to shift unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour.

I am thoroughly invested in supporting you in making the necessary shifts to become the most authentic, fulfilled version of yourself. As I am committed to investing fully in each of my clients, I have limited availability. Please get in touch to secure an appointment.

Background & Experience

I have extensive experience in working with young people, initially as a teacher and then as a guidance counsellor across secondary schools in Auckland.  I have journeyed alongside many young people as they navigate the complex challenges of growing up today.  I have supported individuals and their families to negotiate needs within education systems and across all areas of life.  I'm a strong advocate for our rangatahi and the people who support them.  I draw upon lived experience as well as my own research into the impact of the pandemic on parental cohorts in New Zealand.

The natural evolution of my work in schools led me to the private practice setting where I work closely with adults who navigate their own range of challenges in life.  I have worked with clients from diverse backgrounds and varied experiences.  I understand it can be daunting to seek support. I always ensure that your wellbeing and comfort is prioritised, no matter what you bring along to therapy.

I enjoy supporting clients to make meaning of their experiences and embrace a life driven by core values. During the assessment phase, I will look closely at how your experiences and beliefs impact your day-to-day life and give practical suggestions as well as ongoing support with deeper therapeutic work.
